Description

Juggy D is widely regarded as one of the most influential Punjabi artists in the UK. He is the first Punjabi vocalist to make a dent in the UK's mainstream and has featured on tracks by Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Craig David, Mary J Blige, Jay Sean, Missy Elliot and Timbaland.

Juggy D has been singing since he was 14, winning talent competitions, performing at various events and even providing backing vocals for Channi from the renowned Punjabi group Alaap, before leading British Asian producer Rishi Rich discovered him in 2002. He signed to his first record label and made his debut on the hugely popular single, 'Nahin Jeena', which shot straight to number one in the Punjabi charts and stayed there for six weeks.

Juggy D became an overnight sensation and his popularity sky rocketed. He went on to sing with Craig David (coaching him in Punjabi for the song) in the single 'Rise and Fall', which went to number 4 in the UK national charts and in 2003 he also featured alongside Jay Sean on the Rishi Rich Project single 'Dance With You', which reached number 12 in the UK national charts.

He appeared on Top Of The Pops, mainstream breakfast shows, performed to an audience of 165-million at the MTV India Awards, supported Busta Rhymes at Wembley Stadium and Missy Elliot at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, became the first Punjabi singer to perform at the Southport Soul Weekender and has toured across the world with the Rishi Rich Project, which also comprised of Jay Sean and Rishi Rich.

In August 2004 he released his debut album, self-titled Juggy D, which features the hit single, Sohniye. In the week of its release, the album reached the UK's Top 10 national bestsellers list and reached 75 in the UK's national charts. To date, Juggy D is the only Punjabi album to have ever reached the Top 100 of UK national charts. The immense success prompted HMV to take him across the country for a signing tour, where he packed out stores to fans in each city.

The album also topped the Punjabi charts. The overall sound of Juggy D was a complete innovation and entirely different to his traditional Punjabi predecessors - and he has since inspired a new wave of British Asian Punjabi singers to be just as creative with their music.

Juggy D also worked on songs for major Bollywood movies, like the mega-hit Hum Tum (U and I), starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerjee and he collaborated with Bollywood playback icon Sonu Niigaam on the hit song 'Balle Balle' for Gurinder Chadha's film Bride and Prejudice, starring Aishwarya Rai.

He has worked with the industry's most respected names, including Shin from the legendary Punjabi group DCS and leading Mumbai DJ, B Projekt. He collaborated with Sukhwinder Singh and once again with Sonu Niigaam for the single 'Tali' ('Clap') on DJ Sanj's new album and also with Toronto-based DJ Blitz for the hit single 'Take Your Picture', produced by Tigerstyle, which featured at the Indian Film Festival in Toronto.

Juggy D has just completed filming and touring India for Season 1 of SaReGaMaPa as a Judge alongside Dr Jaspinder Narula for Zee TV Punjabi. It is being shown all over India, Canada, USA, UK & Europe and is a huge hit.

Juggy D is preparing to release his second album, Punjabi Rockstar later this year. The Punjabi album features a mixture of ballads, rock, folk and urban beats, produced by some of the industry's most coveted names, including Rishi Rich, Mentor Beats, Tigerstyle and Bee2 from Soundpipe. Punjabi Rockstar sees Juggy D in two major collaborations, with India's queen of bhangra, Miss Pooja and also with east London rapper, The Truth. So look out for this eagerly awaited UK Superstar’s new project.
